Gas Solenoid Valve Replacement in Nottingham

Replace a gas solenoid valve when its coil has failed, it lets gas by when closed, it sticks or hums, or it is undersized for the kitchen load. In Nottingham we isolate the supply, fit a correctly sized normally-closed valve, wire it to the interlock panel, then tightness-test, purge and recommission on the same visit.

  • Normally-closed 230V valves
  • Sizes from 15mm to 2 inch
  • Tightness tested and recommissioned

Signs your solenoid valve needs replacing

  • No gas even though the interlock panel shows healthy
  • A loud hum or a coil that is too hot to touch
  • Gas passing through when the valve should be closed (let-by)
  • Pressure drop under load because the valve is undersized

How a gas solenoid valve works

When the interlock panel powers the coil, a magnetic field lifts the plunger and gas flows. Remove the power — because a fan has stopped, an emergency stop has been pressed or the power has failed — and a spring closes the valve. That fail-safe action is why a faulty valve must be replaced, not wedged open.

Frequently asked questions

How do you test a gas solenoid valve?

The engineer checks the coil voltage and resistance, confirms the valve opens and closes on command from the panel, and carries out a let-by and tightness test to prove it seals fully.

How long does a solenoid valve replacement take?

Most like-for-like replacements take two to four hours including testing and recommissioning.

Can I replace just the coil?

Sometimes. If the valve body seals correctly and a matching coil is available, a coil-only repair may be possible; the engineer will confirm after testing.
